Annual Events

Each year, Alice Ferguson Foundation hosts a number of great events.

Potomac River Watershed Cleanup (April)

The Annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup has become a decisive catalyst for progress that ignites people throughout the watershed with the Alice Ferguson Foundation’s community spirit. The largest regional event of its kind, the Cleanup provides a transforming experience that engages citizens and community leaders and generates momentum for change. In 2016, nearly 10,000 volunteers across Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia set out to make our communities and watershed healthier by participating in the the annual cleanup.

SFF-Kids-dancing-by-treeSpring Farm Festival (May)

Each spring we open our gates to the public for our annual Spring Farm Festival. The event includes music, a gorgeous view, the natural areas, and the lively barnyard that is a “living laboratory” for thousands of children each year. This popular event, attended by several hundred guests each year, offers live music, a plant sale, art and craft displays by local artisans, hay wagon rides, barnyard adventures, kids’ activities, and food and refreshments.

Pinot on the Potomac, (June)

Alice Ferguson Foundation hosts its annual summer garden party and wine tasting, featuring local wines and delicious hors d’oeuvres. This signature event also features live music, seating throughout the gardens, and tours of the farmhouse and property, including the new net-zero water, net-zero energy, and carbon neutral Living Building for several hundred invited guests.

Oktoberfest (October)

The Alice Ferguson Foundation hosts an annual Oktoberfest celebration, offering fall fun for the whole family with proceeds supporting our environmental education programs. Oktoberfest is held on Alice Ferguson Foundation’s beautiful environmental education campus, Hard Bargain Farm. This popular regional event is widely advertised in print and online resources. Guests enjoy delicious German cuisine and beer, the “Alt-Washingtonia” Schuhplattlers dancers, Country Store, hay wagon rides, barnyard animals, and pressed apple cider.

Transforming Communities Summit (November)

This annual gathering of regional leaders seeks solutions to the pervasive problem of trash and litter in our communities. Through effective communication and collaboration among elected officials, government agency officials, members of the environmental community, business leaders, students, and citizens, this event supports regional strategies aimed at reducing trash and increasing recycling and improving education and awareness of the trash issue throughout the Potomac Watershed.
