Support the Alice Ferguson Foundation

Critter-investigation-WebOur guiding principles of Education, Inspiration, and Innovation serve us well. This past year, we mobilized more than 23,000 volunteers to help rid the Potomac River watershed of trash and served more than 6,000 students through our transformational environmental education programs. We also opened one of the world’s greenest buildings, designed to meet the rigorous requirements of the Living Building Challenge™ and to serve as an innovative teaching tool.

Your support makes the work of the Foundation possible, and your impact is significant. A contribution of $50 covers a student’s day at Hard Bargain Farm. A $100 donation provides supplies for a community cleanup. A gift of $500 can cover a bus trip from school to a National Park for a field study. A $2,500 gift allows an entire class to spend the night at Hard Bargain Farm.

Thank you for contributing to AFF’s mission. As we approach the end of the year, we ask you to make a special gift in honor of the organization’s legacy and accomplishments, in celebration of our 60 years of service, and in support of the important work we have left to do.

I Have a Dream

January 14th, 2011

Environmental education is about so much more than just learning about nature. It is about empowering students (and adults) to make conscious decisions about their role in and impact on their environment. Last year, Watkins Elementary School 3rd graders marked storm drains in their community after learning about watersheds and runoff.

This year, those same students, now fourth graders recited Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial. They did a fantastic job! Now they are learning the skills needed to do public speaking, and they are gaining a better understanding of social justice, a concept that is intimately connected to environmental justice.

Check out the media coverage they got in the Washington Post and on the local public radio station. Their teachers should be so proud!!

USA Science & Engineering Festival

December 3rd, 2010

Did you make it to this festival? What a great way to inspire kids with science! AFF was there, and we enjoyed the opportunity to teach children and parents alike about environmental science.
