Join Potomac Riverkeeper Network for a major river cleanup of the Oxon Cove shoreline. Kick off the new year enjoying the outdoors of this often-overlooked park, Oxon Hill Farm, while making a positive impact in your community.
We will spend the entire afternoon on Saturday, January 23rd, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The event is split in two blocks. You may sign up for block 1 (9 AM to 12 PM), block 2 (12 PM to 3 PM) or both.
This site is for block 2 –> 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Find block 1 (12-3) HERE.
Registration is from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and will be in the parking lot at Oxon Hill Farm Park. From there, volunteers must walk nearly one mile down to the cove to reach the shoreline, so please be prepared for a brisk hike.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, we are limiting the number of volunteers, so please register only if you are serious about attending. We need volunteers of all ages to help remove single use plastics and trash washed into the cove. We also need volunteers capable of hauling shopping carts, tires, and heavier debris from the mud up a steep embankment – check the photos below.
We’ll inform you about the weather forecast closer to the day of the event. Wear waterproof boots and clothes you don’t mind getting wet and muddy. Please bring water (in your reusable water bottle, of course) and snacks.
We will provide gloves, bags, and trash pickers.
At registration, we will ask you to complete a safety waiver to participate in the event.
If you cannot make it this Saturday, don’t worry; We will host these cleanups every Saturday in January until all the trash is removed.
***Update regarding Covid-19 and social distancing***
Following the orders from the governors of Maryland and Virginia and the CDC, we will be following safe social distancing practices at our river cleanup events. Masks covering mouth and nose must be worn at the registration table and around volunteers. We will be taking steps to minimize contact throughout the entire event. Please contact us if you have questions or concerns at 336-809-6041.
