Join Potomac Riverkeeper Network and Friends of Oxon Run as we bring our communities together to celebrate Earth Day by giving back!
We welcome volunteers of all ages to help remove single-use plastics and trash that has accumulated along the shoreline of Oxon Cove and Oxon Run. Please be prepared and dress accordingly. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little wet and muddy. (If you have knee high boots or waders we recommend wearing them so you can help us tackle the trash below the shoreline!) Please bring water (in a reusable water bottle, of course) and snacks.
In order to not over-crowd our volunteers, our event will be running in two shifts. One from 9am – 11:30am and the other from 12pm – 2:30pm. There will be access points on both the DC and the Maryland side of the Cove. DC volunteers will check-in at the entrance of Oxon Hill Farm Trail on DC Village Lane, SW. Maryland Volunteers will check-in at the Oxon Hill Bike Trail Parking Lot. Volunteer check-in will begin half an hour before the shift.
Please fill out our volunteer waiver HERE before arriving at our event. Any minors participating must have a parent or legal guardian attend with them and sign their waiver.
***Update regarding Covid-19 and social distancing***
Although this is an outdoor event, we will still follow safe social distancing practices at our river cleanup. Masks covering the mouth and nose must be worn at the registration table and around volunteers. We will be taking steps to minimize contact throughout the entire event.
